Why mentor a UWRA Fellow?

Our Research Translation Fellowship equips early‑career researchers with the skills to turn evidence into action. Mentors are the cornerstone of this journey — providing guidance, perspective, and a network that lasts a lifetime.

Shape the next generation

Fellows are bright, motivated individuals eager to learn. Your mentorship can accelerate their growth and deepen their impact on health and equity.

Learn and grow

Mentoring is a two‑way street. Fellows bring fresh perspectives, new ideas, and energy that can challenge and inspire your own work.

Expand your network

Join a community of mentors, researchers, and practitioners dedicated to evidence‑based change. Build relationships that extend beyond the fellowship.

Who we’re looking for

We seek experienced professionals who are passionate about developing the next generation of research leaders. You don’t need a PhD — we value diverse expertise and perspectives.

Experience

At least 5+ years in research, public health, policy, academia, or a related field. You have insights to share on how to navigate research careers, build collaborations, and translate evidence.

Commitment

Able to dedicate 2–4 hours per month for one‑on‑one meetings, feedback on deliverables, and occasional group sessions. Remote or in‑person — we’re flexible.

Openness

Willing to listen, ask probing questions, and encourage independent thinking. You challenge and support, but let Fellows take ownership of their growth.

Passion

A genuine interest in seeing others succeed and a belief in the power of research to improve lives. You’re excited about UWRA’s mission and values.

What you’ll gain as a mentor

Mentoring isn’t just about giving — it’s a rewarding experience that enriches your career and personal growth.

Leadership development

Strengthen your coaching, communication, and leadership skills. Mentoring is a powerful way to refine your ability to guide and inspire others.

Recognition & visibility

Mentors are featured on our website and in fellowship communications. You’ll be recognised as a contributor to UWRA’s capacity‑building mission.

Impact and satisfaction

There’s nothing quite like seeing a Fellow you’ve mentored go on to lead impactful research or influence policy. Your investment creates a ripple effect.
